New Delhi EV Policy

🚗 EV Retrofitting Subsidy – What’s Being Proposed

🔹 Subsidy amount: A proposal has been circulated to offer ₹50,000 as an incentive for owners who retrofit their old petrol or diesel vehicles into electric vehicles.
🔹 Eligibility & scope: This is aimed at vehicles being converted — not the purchase of new EVs.

  • The draft suggests this benefit may initially be available for the first ~1,000 vehicles converted.
🔹 Policy status: These incentives are part of the draft EV Policy 2.0 and are under consideration — final approval by the Delhi Cabinet is still pending.

🛠 What “EV Retrofitting” Means

EV retrofitting involves replacing the internal combustion engine (petrol/diesel) and related components in an existing vehicle with electric drive components (electric motor, battery pack, controller, etc.), allowing it to function as a battery-electric vehicle.
